The Beutel Seminar for Progressive Jewish Leadership, January 13 – 23, 2011

Jerusalem, Israel

“Because Jewish Learning is the Key Component of Jewish Leadership,” the Beutel Seminar is a prestigious ten-day seminar in Jerusalem run by the Anita Saltz International Education Center. The seminar is housed in Mercaz Shimshon-Beit Shmuel, the headquarters of the World Union for Progressive Judaism. It overlooks the dramatic walls of Jerusalem’s Old City.   The seminar offers the following all within a progressive Jewish context:   (1) the opportunity to study ancient texts and history, (2) discuss current political and social issues, and (3) explore spiritual pathways and concepts of Jewish leadership.

Participants must be recommended by their community (i.e., rabbi, Jewish professional and or local lay leader) for their dedication and commitment to their communities (past and future).

Below are recently held educational events:

URJ Kallah in Glen Clove, New York was held August 4 – 8, 2010.  This kallah was an intense immersion in Jewish texts and ideas with outstanding teachers.  It consisted of full days of study and spiritual growth, including six sessions of a limud (text-based study seminars), plus additional workshops and learning opportunities.  More information is available at: http://urj.org/learning/my/adultstudy/kallah

URJ Had’rachah Seminar for Lay Leaders in Religious Life in Glen Clove, New York was also held August 4 – 8, 2010.  The Had’rachah Seminar was designed to teach lay leaders a variety of skills to help them support communal worship, life-cycle events and educational opportunities. Participants in the Had’rachah Seminar are able to use these skills in various ways–by serving a congregation that has no clergy; by working in an assisted living facility or adult community; or by assisting their congregational clergy. JEA Conference in Washington, DC was held January 24-27, 2010.  The Jewish Educators Assembly is the professional membership association representing a broad range of educators and educational administrators who identify with the Conservative Movement.  Its organization is dedicated to the advancement of Jewish educators and the enhancement of Jewish education in North America.  Visit their website for more information. http://www.jewisheducators.org.
